Gardening Club

6th Mar 2018

My first day at Gardening Club

Monday 5th March was the first day of gardening club for P.7. It starts at 3.00pm and ends at 4.00pm.  During our first day we did many things including planting, vegetables, making the compost, putting fertilizer in the soil and preparing for next week. All of these things I thoroughly enjoyed and I am very happy I took up this extra- curricular activity.

At 3’oclock we met in Mrs Smith’s class where we were joined by Iris from New Horizons garden centre. After that we collected some supplies from Iris’s car and then walked up the hill to the polytunnel. First we had to part the soil by shovelling some up and then turned it over and chopped it up with the spade. Next we spread the compost, raked it and put fertilizer on the soil and compost and once again raked it. Next we planted garlic cloves, shallots and onions using a line so they are straight and put a hand space between each one so they have room to grow. Lastly we went inside the polytunnel to prepare the soil for next week by watering it and adding compost. We also watered the Daffodils so they stay healthy. Mrs Gamble, Iris and Mrs Smith helped us to do all of this and told us how to do each task.

This was my first day at gardening club.
