Eco-Schools Five Senses Challenge - Week 2

28th Apr 2020

Last week's Eco-Schools challenge was all about getting outside and using our senses to listen to the sounds of nature. If anyone did take part, we would love to hear about it!

This week's challenge is all about the sense of Taste! When we buy food in shops, it often comes in plastic packaging. A lot of the time, we throw away this packaging as it is waste and we no longer need it! This waste ends up on land-fill sites and has a negative impact on our environment.

We need to think about ways of reducing the amount of waste we throw away. There are lots of ways to do this!

Baking at home can help us to reduce waste packaging as it means we are not buying these products at the shop.

A lot of you have been baking at home already. This week it would be great if you could bake something and take part in this week's Eco challenge. To take part, all you have to do is share with us some photos / videos of you baking!

It would also be great if you could think about ways of reducing single-use plastics in your home whilst you are doing this.

Here are some ideas below to get you started!

How to reduce packaging waste in your daily life…

  • Remember to recycle any waste that can be recycled
  • Choose products / packaging that can be reused instead of thrown out
  • When shopping, choose products which have packaging that can be recycled, or that is biodegradable
  • Take your own bags when shopping
  • Don’t use plastic water bottles, get a reusable one!
